Indoor Arena | Surface Upgrade & Cleaning
Sydney International Equestrian Centre has recently made a significant investment in upgrading Arenas 5 (Indoor Arena) and 6 (adjacent warm-up paddock) with the ‘OTTO Riding Mat System’ (incorporating the Ebb & Flow watering system). As a result, the supplier has given clear instructions for the essential maintenance of the new surface, which includes the removal of all organic substances. Horse manure has the potential to reduce the integrity and performance of the new surface and can dramatically reduce the lifespan of the asset.
Under a 12-month trial, venue hirers of the Indoor Arena 5 and Arena 6 will be given the opportunity to demonstrate the care and attention required to protect the new surface and ensure the attributes and quality is sufficiently maintained. The Organising Committee for the 2018 AANC has agreed to cover the cost of the labour required to clean manure from the Indoor Arena & Arena 6 during show times on Thursday through Saturday, commencing 1/2 hour prior to the event and concluding 1/2 hour post-event.
As a result, Arena 6 will be closed for riding except 1/2 prior to show time on Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Warm-up is still available in Arena 4 (Wednesday-Saturday) & Arena 11 (Tuesday-Saturday).
The cooperation of ALL exhibitors is imperative to keep the indoor arena clear of manure during familiarisation times on Wednesday from 12-8PM and each morning before the show from 6AM until arena prep time 1/2 hour before the show commences. We kindly ask that ALL exhibitors, whether handling or riding a horse during these familiarisation times bring a secondary support person, whose primary duty will be to remove any manure immediately from the surface before it can be trodden in. We would also kindly ask that all secondary support persons assist with the removal of any manure that may be passed by ANY & ALL horses using the indoor arena during familiarisation periods.
Equipment - manure forks, rakes, shovels, muck buckets, etc. - necessary to remove and store the manure from the surfaces of the Indoor Arena (Arena 5) and the warm-up paddock (Arena 6) will be provided by SIEC. We ask that you kindly return these tools to their designated locations once manure has been removed and properly disposed.
Please be aware that SIEC officials, whose sole duty will be to remove any manure immediately from the surface before it can be trodden in, will be in the warm-up paddock and in the Indoor Arena during show times. Please be aware that exhibitors will need to use ringmanship and awareness to account for these people in the ring while riding and handling.
This upgraded surface is a welcome addition to SIEC and one on which the long-term orthopaedic health of our horses will be supported and protected, while simultaneously serving the best interests of our riders, handlers, exhibitors, owners & breeders. SIEC management, as well as the AHSA & the AANC Organising Committee, greatly appreciate your cooperation in ensuring we maintain this world class riding surface for many years to come.
